Why Discord caps uploads at 10MB
Normal uploads on free Discord accounts are capped around 10MB per file. Larger files need a boosted server, a paid plan, or an external link — or simply a smaller copy of the video.
The limit applies per file
It is the attachment size that matters, not the total. One 9MB clip goes through in a normal upload; one 11MB clip bounces.
Phone recordings blow past it fast
A modern phone records 1080p at bitrates that pass 10MB in a few seconds of footage, so untrimmed clips almost never fit without compression.
Links change the conversation
Pasting a cloud link makes people leave the chat, fight an external player, and sometimes hit a region block. An attachment plays in place.
